“USA Cycling has offered the Adventure Advocates Accidental Insurance / Assurant Health major medical program as a benefit to our members since November 2005. The program has been well received by our members since its launch and I would recommend both programs.”

“On February 26, 2006, my husband had a pretty nasty bike crash while we were mountain biking at Graham Hills, NY. First of all, I was really scared for his life because he was lying on the trail unconscious for almost a minute. Then, once he woke up and spit out the blood which had pooled up in his mouth, we began to walk back to the parking lot. I was nervous about the financial bombshell this was going to drop on us. We didn't have health insurance at the time and I wasn't sure if the accident insurance I signed up for last year through Adventure Advocates as a USA Cycling member would really cover our Emergency room costs. I got him to the Englewood, NJ hospital, where the staff took excellent care of him. He had a concussion and needed several stitches on his ear and inside and outside his mouth. The medical expenses were $8200. I filed a claim with Nathan at Adventure Advocates and received checks for the hospital and surgeon's bills. I've since signed up for health insurance but am keeping the accident insurance to help cover the hospital deductible. I'm so grateful for the inexpensive and efficient coverage provided by Adventure Advocates. I highly recommend all cyclists to sign up; hopefully you won't, but you never know when you may need the help.”

“I would like to thank you for your services. They have proved to be fast and efficient. Seeing that I’m a poor professional cyclist and a newbie to the working world full coverage health insurance is hard to come by. When I separated my shoulder racing, I thought that my racing career was over as well as my financial stability. Luckily I was covered by Adventure Advocates and thanks to them I saved thousands of dollars, and a professional cycling career.”

“Adventure Advocates…. What can I say? I guess WOW would be appropriate. When I was first approached by Nathan Nicholas, I was a bit skeptical to say the least, but after doing some research and talking to Nathan, I realized that this program HAD to come to my resort. Not only for the low price of the plan, but because of Nathan himself. Nathan made it so easy to implement into my resort. The associates that learned about this great new benefit were over the moon. I looked like a hero. Before we only had Ski- Med and that plan was expensive as well as not covering very much in case of serious injury. Our seasonal associates come here to do extreme skiing, so when they found they had a choice in plans, we went from 90% of associates on Ski-Med to 95% on Adventure Advocates, only 2 associates chose to go onto Ski- Med. Nathan came to the resort and got the ball rolling, I didn’t really have to do anything at all. Nathan and Adventure Advocates freed up so much time for me this winter, by taking care of everything!!! It didn’t cost my company any money to offer this to our associates and that made me look real good to the BOSS!!! I really can’t say enough good things about Nathan and Adventure Advocates, it’s been awesome working with Nathan and the plan is soooo easy!!! Thanks Nathan and Adventure Advocates for a great year!”

“Both my wife and I really appreciate the way you and Adventure Advocates handled our claim dealing with my shoulder separation. The coverage took care of both the initial ER visit and the follow-up visits with the specialist. It has taken a couple of months for me to get back into the swing of things but I was out raft guiding in the Royal Gorge this last weekend. Thanks a ton and wish you luck with a fun filled summer.”

”As promised, I am submitting a testimonial about my experience with being a member and the claims process which I recently went through after a recent accident. Honestly, I wanted to take this opportunity to express to other people how beneficial it is to be a member and to help alleviate some concerns that people may have, probably much like my apprehensions when I first signed up. Here it goes: At last minute my pard and I decided to go for a mountain biking ride after work with no intention of planning the route or having any idea how long it would take to complete the ride, my kind of trip! Anyway, we started off close to dusk where we winded down a mountain ridge into an adjacent canyon. After a few stops to take in the summer sunset we realized we still had a ways to go and light was fading fast. By that time we were in a thick forested area and it was pitch black which makes it very hard to see. After a slow and cautious decent on single track, we hit blacktop towards the bottom of the canyon. Anxious to return home, we cruised down and I led the way because I had a head lamp and thought I would have time to react to any obstacles. However, unbeknownst to me, some pedestrians were strolling up the road without a flashlight and were directly in my path and by the time I could react, I reacted too fast and slammed on my brakes. Having no reference points, I did not realize I was flipping multiple times until I landed on my head and back where I instantly burst into flames. After the smoke cleared, I had knarly road rash along my lower spine and a cracked helmet. I decided to limp myself into the nearest emergency room. The entire trip down from the canyon I was contemplating how much this was going to cost more than how much pain I would soon be in because I had absolutely no health insurance. But I remembered I had recently joined Adeventure Advocates that would cover all reasonable costs related to any accident causing injury. Even though the hospital bill was completely unreasonable, I sent it in along with my claim form but was apprehensive how much I would be compensated. With that much coverage for such a small price is a bargain! Plus the added benefit of some nice discounts and other services and on top of that, all proceeds go towards environmental conservation. It's a no brainer! I'm a member for life.”

I appreciate the service you provide for young, dumb adventurous guys like me who don't think they need health insurance or cant afford it which is the majority of uninsured persons. Please let me know what I can do to further promote this association, because I truly believe in your mission. Oh, can you send me a cool member sticker, I don't have one. Thank you.

“To whom ever reads this! I am a young man and am not yet worried about the maladies of becoming older, but as health insurance continues to be on the rise, I am becoming more concerned with things that I cannot protect against. This boils down to accidents. I love being outdoors and using my body to enjoy life but have been taking less risks because of the possibility of injury. This because I have no health insurance. This winter I started working for a restaurant in Telluride, Co. and they put me in touch with this service. I was so relieved at having something; that I could not believe it to be real. Well, as I was paying a mere $25 a month, I thought it could not hurt. Well it has not hurt but helped as I hurt my elbow trying something stupid on a snowboard. Before Adventure Advocates, I would just sit and hope that it would heal itself, but now I have a second course of action, and it just lets you breathe a little easier.”
